PAWS Update 11/10/2005

Message from AFA President Dr. Gallaway:
General Counsel Gary Lilienthal, at my request and with Board of Directors' knowledge and approval, has been working to resolve issues related to the PAWS amendment. Through Gary's efforts, AFA's and aviculture's interests were represented and heard in discussions with the legislative committee. The understanding which we are informed has been reached will exempt all avian species from the PAWS amendment. (Please note that this does not mean avian species are being exempted from the AWA.) Following is the letter that was delivered to the legislative committee during this week's hearings on the PAWS amendment.
